A Million Chimpanzees: Review: The Official Ubuntu Book, 4th Edition

  • Corey Burger · 5 months ago
Hey, thanks for review. One minor point about the server chapter: it was there since the 1st edition. The forums chapter was in the Barnes&Noble Special edition last time, moved to the regular release for 4th. The B&N edition now includes a netbook chapter.

Full disclosure: I am an author of all 4 editions of the book

A few points about the authors: Jono was a significant contributor to prior editions, but due to his job at Canonical, is now unavailable. Ditto Dave. Ivan now works at Apple.

Matt was brought in for this edition because both Mako and I were too busy with life/school/jobs to update the whole book. Working with him was a real pleasure, as has working with all the other co-authors.

First off I don't understand why my name is off the book. I once again re-wrote a lot of the kubuntu chapter and am very pissed if this is true. Disappointed that my name is off the book and my content is being represented from someone else.

In fact this version of the book I received the least amount of support and feedback over the previous 3 version I've written.

I take pride walking into the local bookstore, going to the Linux section of computer books and seeing my name up there. In fact my co-workers constantly give me crap about it.

I have already wwritten to Matthew and to the Publisher asking for explanation of this.

Thanks for the rest of the review

Sorry to hear about the disagreement over cover credit. The publisher is usually the party directly responsible for that decision, rather than any of the other authors. I hope that everything works out. Sorry if I wrote anything that may have caused offense.

You didn't cause any problems, thank you for alerting to me of this problem.

No worries. Just visited your blog. I think we may have a few things in common. Glad to see another conservative person in tech. Sometimes I feel like a rather odd duck. ;-)
